A Day To Remember Wedding & Event Planning, LLC | Rachel Erin Photography
A bride in the South loves tradition and loves new trends and will most likely combine traditional with new.
We're here to bring you 10 truly
Southern Wedding Trends of 2016.
1. Unique & Antique Rentals
Southern brides are stepping away from cookie cutter rentals and are seeking out unique pieces such as vintage sofas and farm tables from rental companies like Distressed Rentals & Revival near New Orleans and Antiques At The Crossroads near Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
2. Local Signature Drinks
Southern couples have been skipping fussy, complicated cocktail recipes and choosing regional classics, like mint juleps, whiskey sours, anything made with bourbon and Abita Beers!
3. Southern Tradition Etiquette
A truly Southern bride may be entrenched in new trends and her Pinterest board, but tradition will dictate and she will plan her wedding with every Southern tradition that she knows of. She will seek out the Southern plantation wedding, monogram her favors, and her decor will be nothing short of elegant.
4. Family Style Tables
Round tables out; long, farm tables in! Think community table. The concept has become popular and has taken precedent at Southern celebrations. We love the idea that it brings your guests together and invites them to converse amongst each other.
5. Romantic Bridal Fashion
Bridal fashion trends are forever changing! And Southern brides are stepping away from the over-the-top glamour and are wearing more romantic gowns, think lace. Brides are also stepping away from traditional veils and using unique headpieces such as floral crowns, which brings us to trend number 6.
6. Southern Boho
Many couples are seeking an authentic experience for their wedding day, with old-fashioned quality, natural surroundings, honest sharing food, textural materials and stylish but simple details. The floral crown is extremely popular amongst trendy boho brides.
7. Food Stations/Satellite Stations
We love our food in the South and what better way to showcase our cuisine than to give it it's own space. Couples are opting to have signature dishes prepared right in front of their guests.
10. Jamming Live Music
Sorry DJ's, we love you and all and you sure do know how to keep the party going, but we're seeing a decline as more bands are moving in on the wedding scene! Everything from singers, pianists, percussionists, and orchestra's can help amplify the ambiance of your special day.
This is NOT a Southern wedding trend.
NO offense to those that love the modern couture look, but how many brides do you know want messy hair and makeup that makes you look at a heroin addict? This look is NOT for everyone. Seriously, that's not romantic and definitely not Southern.
If you want the modern couture look, by all means, go for it! Unfortunately, this blog won't be for you then, sorry y'all! Good news is, there's plenty of modern, couture blogs and magazines out there for you!
There will always be new trends to read about, follow and pin, not every trend is for a Southern bride. Just remember to make it your own and if your celebration happens to fall into one of the top 10 Southern trends, submit it for a chance to be featured, both online and in print!
Happy planning y'all!
