Bridal boudoirs have become increasingly popular over the years. The blushing bride wants to give her soon-to-be-husband a gift for their wedding day and the one things he hasn’t had yet, is a boudoir photo collection of his soon-to-be-wife. You might be wondering what a bridal boudoir shoot is: A bridal boudoir shoot is a chance for you to look and feel beautiful. It can take place in a bedroom setting, in your home, a studio, or even a hotel; if you’re a lover of nature, take your session outdoors in a secluded area. You can dress in lingerie, playful outfits, or simply cover up with a sheet to get some sexy photos of yourself! Not only is it a great confidence booster, but it also makes a great gift for your new husband. It’s far from being X-rated though, think of it as Pg-13 or even NC-17! Some professionals like to call it “implied nude”, parts of you will be covered, whether it’s a robe partially covering you, props, blankets, or maybe it’s the position in which you are laying, like if you are lying on you stomach. Many women will shy away from taking boudoir photos. We’re here to tell you that YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL and your future husband thinks so too! Here’s a few tips, written by DJ Hunter, owner of Prince Photography, if you’re thinking about a bridal boudoir shoot: So you’re considering a boudoir session, but can’t decide if it is right for you or not. First off, what IS boudoir? It is defined as a woman’s private bedroom. In photography, it is a genre that showcases the intimate, romantic, and seductive side of a woman. There are many misconceptions about boudoir photography, as well as hindrances from all women as some truly don’t see themselves in that light. But the reality is, that is why boudoir is perfect for EVERY woman. First, if you are considering bridal boudoir, then that you are already preparing to walk down the aisle, meaning you have already found the love of your life who accepts you for all that you are. Every flaw, doubt, insecurity, and “room for improvement” that exists within your mind, they have accepted, cherish, and are prepared to vow to spend the rest of their life enjoying. They love you, unconditionally, without reservation, and that includes the physical and visual aspects of you. They accept you. And it’s time for you to accept that, as well as accept and appreciate yourself. ![]() Second, though a bridal boudoir session is presented to your husband as his gift, it is also a gift to yourself! Women consistently measure themselves against other women and often tear themselves down with unrealistic expectations that just aren’t real. What most women don’t realize, however, is that EVERY woman does this. Yes, even the “she’s so perfect she never has to worry about beauty” super models, Instagram chicks, or girl next door that you believe jogs in skimpy clothes for attention way too much. This is what being feminine is all about. And what boudoir allows you to do is be shamelessly feminine. It is a statement that yes, I have flaws. No, I’m not perfect. But I am the perfect me that I can be, and that is more than enough. ![]() So how is boudoir a gift for yourself as well? Boudoir is more than just shots of you trying to be sexy for your man. You can do that with a camera phone. Most women haven’t seen themselves glamoured up, in a perfect setting since they played make believe as a child. And that is what boudoir is about: becoming the fantasy of yourself that you would like to be. Professionally being transformed, guided, and reminded that you are beautiful, you are empowered, you are sexy. For me, watching a client embracing her fears and doubts at the beginning of a session, then showing her, her images and watch her be taken aback that this really is her is a rewarding process for me. And if I feel it, and I am not emotionally attached to the images, imagine how you will feel seeing yourself in this very exclusive light. Boudoir is more than just lingerie. It is a chance for you to define YOUR sexy. It can be as wild as a fantasy of a professional woman at the end of the day, to as simple as playfully having fun in your man’s shirt. The only question that needs to be answered is what makes YOU feel sexy? And you answer it by becoming it.
