The age old question: what's the difference between escort cards and place cards?
While both tell each guest where they will be sitting at a reception, there is a notable difference.
What is an escort card at a wedding?
Escort cards are a little more informal. They will tell yours guests which table to sit at, but not which seat to sit in, allowing your guest to sit where they prefer at their assigned table. Some couples do, however, choose to have both an escort card and a place card, but it is not necessary if you choose to do an escort card only.
So, what is a place card?
Place cards are more detailed. They will tell your guests which table and seat to sit in. These are for more formal wedding receptions where the wedding couple may be having a seated dinner. This will help the caterer determine who gets the chicken, beef, fish, etc. dish (sometimes these will have a slight variation such as a dot or color to signal to the caterer on who gets what to help distribute meals).
Whatever you choose, have fun and get creative when designing a way to display your cards!
